Before i took the plywood form off the former, to cut the desired shape i wanted a completely flat edge , that would enable the base to line up more easily later in the making process. To successfully do this i screwed the ply form back into the former to ensure it wouldn’t move, and used a hand router, making small cuts to remove the excess ply. I had never used a hand router before this, the experience was good, and quite easy to use, as long as the face plate was kept flush with the surface of the ply, and the ball guide running along the flat plywood of the jig. There was some difficulty keeping it straight along the corners, however, this was just a matter of routing slowly, and taking smaller cuts to keep the edge flush.routing.
